Classes & Events

Master Gardeners offer free classes most Saturdays of the year. No advance registration is needed in most cases.

10/10 Grapes from Garden to Table Instructors: Dave Hale and Master Food Preservers

Come and see how you can grow grapes successfully in our county.  Learn which grape varieties are best suited for our region and how to propagate, plant, cultivate, and prune grapes.  Master Food Preservers will also share how to store, freeze, and dry grapes… and how to extract the juice to make a freezer grape jelly.

10/13 2nd Saturdays with Barry Barry Wold & Team

Planting Peas and Winter Cover crops will be the focus of this month’s gathering at the Vegetable Garden.

9-11 am/free class/$2 parking Sherwood Demonstration Garden, 6699 Campus Drive, Placerville

10/20 Putting Your Garden to Bed Instructors: Cheryl Turner & Cindy Young

The extra effort you put into your garden areas this fall  will pay big dividends next year.  Master Gardeners will discuss yard and garden clean up. Cool season planting, tool sharpening/cleaning, composting/mulching, and pruning.  Learn why you should collect those valuable fall leaves.  Time will be spent in the SDG with examples of “putting your garden to bed.”  Note class goes till 4pm.

10/27 Fall Propagation Instructors: Gail Fulbeck & Debbie Hillel

You will learn techniques to propagate some of the most common plants found within your own home, garden, or landscape. Methods of Cuttings, Layering, and Divisions will be discussed.  Save money, have fun, and learn uncomplicated ways to expand your garden using materials you already have.

9am-noon/free class Sherwood Demonstration Garden, 6699 Campus Drive, Placerville

If rain is forecast at 20% or above (https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/ca/placerville/95667) class will instead be held inside Government Center, Bldg C Hearing Room, 2850 Fairlane Ct, Placerville


Opens in April - Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 am to Noon. Closed on rainy days.
