About Us

Who are the Master Gardeners?

Master Gardeners are community members who have been trained under the direction of the University of California Cooperative Extension. Each volunteer has completed more than 50 hours of formal classroom training. Master Gardeners help the Cooperative Extension office provide practical scientific gardening information to the home gardeners of our county

How we serve El Dorado County:

  • MG Office: Master Gardeners are available 9 am to noon, Tuesday through Friday, to answer your home gardening questions by phone, email, or in person.

  • Free Public Classes: We offer classes on a variety of topics most Saturday mornings throughout the entire year. Master Gardeners are available to answer your questions during breaks and after class. See our class schedule for more information.

  • Weekly newspaper articles: The Mt. Democrat newspaper publishes a weekly Master Gardener column. Read previous articles in our online archive.

  • Information Booths at Local Events: Master Gardeners staff information booths and give demonstrations at various community events. Look for us at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, the Home and Garden Show, various Farmers Markets, Earth Day Events, Kid's Expo, Farm Day, and more.
